As from October 2004 new EEC regulations are effected. These regulations arrange that all sea-going vessels have to pay an indirect fee for collecting their ships generated waste, whether they have it removed or not.

The purpose of these regulations is to reduce illegal discharges into the sea, especially from ships using ports within the EEC.

This fee gives the right to dispose free of charge a huge amount of waste materials annex I (ships related) divided into categories based on Main Engine Capacity (MEC).
